Two weeks ago, my sensei asked me if I was interested in assisting another teacher with teaching the Saturday morning kid’s class. I said yes so I’ve been training by coming to other kid’s classes and learning about the rhythm and style of teaching the kids. It’s been a wonderful experience so far. It’s amazing how much you learn from kids if you’re open to it. The class is for 6-13 year olds.

Last week, the class was so big that sensei gave me a group of white belts all by myself. At this point, it was only my third class observing so I was a little nervous. I joked around with the kids a little and told them it was my first time and that if I forget anything they should let me know. So I started off with some of the stuff I’d learned and eventually the kids started reminding me to play some games. They reminded me nicely of course. They knew I was a n00b and tried to spare my feelings.

Overall, it’s been a great experience. I’m looking forward to learning more from them and maybe one day teaching them a little something myself.

Hehe. I think someone took some pictures. I’ll have to track them down. But I did do a little teaching during my “training”. :)
