New Friends

So we’re back in Sao Paulo now and everyone is reunited. Josh and Becca are finally together, Josh is almost done with work, and SB is almost open in Brazil. It’s been a very uneventful and relaxing time since we’ve been back in Sao Paulo. While I was gone, the main Sao Paulo team one the national title. Josh was at the game where they clinched it and his story of it is amazing.

Back to Rio de Janeiro…

I enjoyed RJ very much. Lauren and I met up with a high school friend, Christine, who lives there. She’s now married to a great guy named Ronaldo, and has a very cute poodleish dog named Chandon (I don’t know if that’s spelled right). I was not allergic at all! The apartment is very cute and is in Leblon, the neighborhood right next to the famous Ipanema. Christine was only with us for one day since she works for an NGO that has her flying all over the world, but Ronaldo was a great guide and host.

During our time there, we got to lay around on the beach, swim in the water, walk around, and eat good food. Unfortunately, during our third day, I came down with a fever and started having stomach troubles. The fever went away very quickly, but the stomach troubles are still nagging me. It’s created an unpleasant couple of days, but I feel better now even though I’m still struggling with some aspects of digestion. I wonder if I picked up a few new friends along the way…

Josh is finished working as of today and so we’re all getting in a car and heading for the coast. We’re going to stay in a quaint little town on the coast called Sao Sebastiao where the beaches are supposed to be very nice and less crowded than Rio and other popular beach destinations. I get to drive again and I’m pretty excited about that. On Thursday, I will be driving the car back myself to the airport and the others will be staying an extra night since their flight is a couple of days after mine.

I caught part of the Seahawks/Packers game on TV last night and I was blown away that it was snowing in Seattle. It looked like a game in Green Bay! I think it’s ridiculous that I’ll be on the beach today while back home everyone’s having a winter feast! Now I have to decide if I need to go skiing the day after I get back from Brazil. Why me?

The snow was magical and reminded me of nights solo sailing through snow in Boston on cold winter nights. Ocean surf and snow - that might just be paradise.

Vomit! Fuck you! I”ll swap my tele bindings for your surf board and umbrella cocktails ….

    Not.

    Biopolar…

Ack! you guys should come over for dinner when you’re back… I’ll let you drive my POS stick shift jeep :)

I finally caught up on reading your blog (I know it’s a little late in your trip, but better late than never).

DUDE, I am blown away. You are an amazing writer and have a serious knack for describing a place, people, experiences in such a way that I feel as if I am there with you. I’ve never been to Brazil, but thanks to you, today I just took a little trip. And I needed it today, boy did I ever. It hasn’t been above the 20’s for the last few days, the roads are suuuuuper icy and it’s supposed to snow again tonight. Imagining myself on the streets of Salvador and the beaches of Rio put a little warmth back in my perpetually frozen toes.

I can’t wait to hear the rest of your stories and see your pictures!! Have a great last few days there in the warm, sunny sun and I’ll see you when you get back. Don’t worry it’s supposed to be raining and in the 40’s on Friday.
