New Look!
Yup, it’s a blank-eyed stare. That’s how I feel right now. I spent the last couple of hours putting the finishing touches on the new theme and moving the site from the /blog subfolder to the site root. Shouldn’t be hard, right? Well, it’s been a while since I’ve messed with Apache and .htaccess and it seemed like no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the right RewriteRule to get the old locations to permanently redirect to the new location. Add on top of that my ineptitude with svn and trying to get the flickr photo album plugin working for real with my installation and you’re sure as shit I have a fish stare on my face.
So after this foray into doing a pretty basic customization of wordpress, I have what you’re looking at here. Here’s a rundown of what I’m using on the site.
Plugins
- Akismet - for comment spam
- Feedburner Feed Replacement - for feedburner feed replacement
- Flickr Photo Gallery - a neat plugin to integrate with flickr
- Google Analytics
- Sidebar Widgets - gives you a pretty decent interface for dynamic sidebar widgets
- Tiger Style Administration - awesome admin interface!
- Wordpress Reports - check out your google analytics and feedbuner stats at a glance
- WP-DBManager - an easy way to backup your database from the admin (But I’d like to see this able to be scheduled with cron or some other scheduler)
Theme
For the theme, I took the standard kubrick theme and modified it to my own liking. I like it because it’s simple and clean too. For the header image, I was just messing around with cell-shading filters in photoshop. It’s from a photo we took on a trip out to Shi Shi beach a couple years ago.
