Beaches and Explosions

Lolo and I took a trip to beautiful and sunny Westport, WA this past weekend on a whim, expecting to fight crowds when the state parks online reservation system said there was one ADA campsite available at Twin Harbors State Park. Much to our surprise, when rolling around the campground there were many camp sites to be found and we picked one that was relatively quiet (for a fireworks weekend) and ended up having great morning sun (read: hour-long nap in the camp chair after breakfast).

For dinner, the one-eyed crab filled our bellies with seafood fettucini (crab, clams, scallops, prawns, bay shrimp). The firewood purchased at the supermarket refused to stay lit. Lauren continued coaxing the fire long after I resigned myself to drink warm white wine served in a Nalgene. Few things top falling asleep to a cacophany of frogs.

The beach was beautiful and a bit windy. Broke our $1 kite trying to fly it in 20mph wind, collected our sand, and drove home with a bag of fresh cherries and seafood in our bellies.

We got home, quickly showered and hopped on our bikes to head down to Cap'n Geoff's boat on Lake Union to get a good perspective on the smiley bombs, exploding saturns, heartsplosions, and jazz hands (million points of light) display. I woke up way to early the next morning.
